Performative ritualThe performance emerged as a collective gesture around the fanzine Brujas y Putas, a project of the SUR School in which each student wove his or her own narrative in relation to a chosen theme. The publication was the starting point for a ritual action that symbolically summoned witches and whores as figures historically marginalized, but also deeply linked to resistance, memory and transformation.

The ritual was articulated through the sound of a rattle, a vibration that marked time and opened the space to the invisible and to dispossession. I worked with materials from my own cultural heritage: earth, rum and tobacco from Cuba, as offerings and tools of connection. The earth acted as a root and the rum as a purifier of the bodies and energies present, a vehicle of communication with the ancestral.

During the action, rum became the mediator of a spiritual cleansing. It was offered as sacred water, capable of dissolving burdens and giving back to the participants a sense of openness towards a new recognition.
